The City Gallery was inspired as a piece of art would be, the idea, passion, vision, location, planning, activity, and fruition all inspired by the founders observations of the enviornment around her. Carolee Schmid is definately an original working a vision that the city of Mount Clemens has come to admire.
"When I was a child while walking around the City of Mount Clemens, my friends would see old scary houses with elderly people rocking on their porches. I however intrigued by the grandeur architecture, history and vast possiblities these treasures held. Little did I know that these very things which had sparked my imagination as a child would become my passion as an adult." Carolee Schmid
Since opening the gallery there have been many exibits the first in July 2001 with "Jessie Edwards Retrospective" time the City Gallery was the only show in the art world for Mount Clemens. Quickly growing to over 20 artists with mixed media and varied styles, Macomb County had a place that showed their artside to it's best. The City Gallery continued to exhibit and promote the experienced as well as the lesser known, but not less important artists.
In 2003 a continuing exihibit "Yearn to Learn" for children 6 years of age to adults. This event continues to exhibit established and emerging artists with monthly receptions and celebrations.
The Mount Clemens Art Association has been existance for over 40 years and was in threat of extinction, the City Gallery held an event to assist in increasing membership enrollment.
The City Gallery encouraged high school students at Mount Clemens High School by assisting in showing their work in mixed media, oil, acrylic, raku, and metal.
Interior Designers were invited to encourage clients to choose from 30 artists in their ever changing inventory at The City Gallery and receive a 10% of the sale going to the designer. The clients also had the option to take pieces home before purchasing.
The City Gallery continued to add to their local artist potfolio and encourage other exhibits with established and emerging artists.
They also encouraged group and solo exhibits as well.
In 2004 The City Gallery hosted a fund raiser for Smile Train giving this political venue a great backdrop. Also this year the gallery participated in quarterly DDA Ladies Night Out with voting on "Viewers Choice" ribbon for artist and art pieces for viewer drawing. Bath City envolvement with handpainted jeans and embellished straw hats.
2005, the City Gallery moved to 292 Cass Avenue and began the 1700's Voyager Model series with 2 hour sessions.
2006, the City Gallery continued to build workshops and demonstrations and adding more artists.
2007, The City Gallery exhibits 30 artists, and is the perfect enviornment for Political Fundraisers, Soriety Auctions. Call us for your upcoming event.
